BYD Unveils Two Game-Changing Models at 2024 Beijing Auto Show: Qin L and Seal 06 DM-i
BYD has unveiled two significant new models at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. The first is the Qin L, a member of the Wangchao network, and the second is the Seal 06 DM-i, a brother model from the Haiyang network. The Seal 06 DM-i is positioned as a mid-sized vehicle, equipped with BYD’s latest generation of hybrid technology, and its price range of 99,800 to 139,800 yuan has immediately captured the market’s attention.
Exterior: Sleek and Stylish The Seal 06 DM-i boasts a sleek and stylish exterior design that appeals to a broad audience. It features a harmonious and visually appealing design with minimal exaggerated elements. The dual-L-shaped daytime running lights add a touch of sophistication. Measuring 4830mm x 1875mm x 1495mm and with a wheelbase of 2790mm, the Seal 06 DM-i’s dimensions make it a mid-sized vehicle. The top-spec model comes with 18-inch wheels, while mid- and low-spec models feature 16 or 17-inch wheels.
Interior: Luxurious and Spacious The Seal 06 DM-i’s interior features an embracing cockpit design with a wave-like curve on the center console, making it look younger and more fashionable compared to the Qin L. The use of soft materials on the dashboard and door panels enhances the overall quality feel.
The top-spec model features a 15.6-inch central screen, while mid-spec models have 12.8-inch screens. The entry-level model comes with a 10.1-inch screen. The DiLink intelligent networking system supports voice interaction and a wide range of third-party applications.
The crystal-style gearshift is delicate and easy to operate. Common functions like volume control, air conditioning, and driving mode selection are all in physical button form, offering both convenience and a stylish design.
The leather steering wheel is of a suitable size, with a comfortable grip and a wide range of manual adjustment. The front seats are all-in-one, emphasizing the sporty feel, and the top-spec model includes electric adjustment and ventilation/heating functions.
Dynamic: Agile and Responsive The Seal 06 DM-i is powered by BYD’s fifth-generation plug-in hybrid technology, with a 1.5L engine and an electric motor. The engine produces 74 kW of power and 126 Nm of torque, while the electric motor produces 160 kW and 260 Nm. The battery capacity is 15.87 kWh, offering a CLTC pure electric range of 120 km and support for fast and slow charging. The official 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 7.5 seconds.
In terms of driving experience, the new generation of hybrid system delivers impressive smoothness, noise control, and energy efficiency, especially considering its affordable price. The system supports series, parallel, and hybrid drive modes. The Seal 06 DM-i’s NEDC fuel consumption is only 2.9L/100km, and its range with a full tank and battery is an impressive 2100km.
Chassis: Significant Improvements The Seal 06 DM-i features front MacPherson and rear four-link independent suspensions. The suspension calibration is not overly soft, providing a rich sense of the road. The suspension filters out bumps cleanly and offers good side support during cornering. The responsive steering adds to the overall driving experience, which is far from being dull.
In conclusion, the Seal 06 DM-i and its brother model, the Qin L, have already started selling, and their order volumes are expected to be very high. Both models offer exceptional value for money, with clear advantages in fuel economy, comfort, and space compared to their price range competitors. When choosing between the two, consider not only their different exterior and interior designs but also the convenience.
