Collaborative Construction: Establishing a High-Quality Charging Infrastructure Network

China is actively promoting the collaborative construction of a high-quality charging infrastructure system to support the development of the new energy vehicle industry and meet the public’s demand for green transportation. A spokesperson for the National Development and Reform Commission recently stated that the country will continue to strengthen overall planning and coordination, working with relevant departments to accelerate the construction of the charging infrastructure system. To date, China has built the world’s largest, most extensive, and most comprehensive charging infrastructure system, with a total of 10.243 million units, a year-on-year increase of 54.0%.

The General Office of the State Council has also issued guidelines on further constructing a high-quality charging infrastructure system. These guidelines emphasize the importance of charging infrastructure for the development of the electric vehicle industry and set a goal of establishing a widely-covered, appropriately scaled, reasonably structured, and functionally complete high-quality charging infrastructure system by 2030. This aims to better support the development of the new energy vehicle industry and effectively meet the public’s charging needs for transportation.

To achieve this goal, the government is optimizing the network layout, improving the level of operational services, and strengthening the leadership of technological innovation. For instance, in response to the different needs of inter-city, urban, and rural areas, the government is advancing the construction of various types of charging infrastructure to address charging pain points. Additionally, it is strengthening quality and safety supervision and promoting the innovative application of new technologies, new formats, and new models to enhance the quality and efficiency of charging services.

Overall, these measures are expected to effectively promote the development of China’s new energy vehicle industry while facilitating the green and low-carbon transformation of transportation.
