The 2025 Toyota GR Corolla has been officially unveiled, offering a choice between a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic transmission, similar to the GR Yaris. The new model has upgraded its 1.6-liter engine, increasing torque from 370 Nm to 400 Nm, and has also undergone hardware optimization and improved cooling systems.
The front bumper of the new Toyota GR Corolla has been redesigned with extensive blackening, making the front face more exaggerated. Due to its strong track attributes, it features a removable design, and new side fender ventilation outlets have been added to expel air from the wheel arches. The interior is largely similar to the previous generation, focusing on a simple and unadorned style, with a multitude of physical buttons in the center console, a small screen, and a distinct GR identity logo on the steering wheel.
As previously leaked drawings indicated, the new Toyota GR Corolla will have an optional 8-speed automatic transmission. This 8-speed transmission is known as the Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT), the same as the transmission equipped on the GR Yaris series. The key difference between the DAT and the transmissions on the GR Supra and GR 86 is that the DAT shifts gears not based on deceleration force and vehicle speed, but by sensing brake and throttle inputs to achieve perfect shifts. Notably, the transmission’s gear ratios are very similar to those of the standard 6-speed manual transmission, and it comes equipped with its own dedicated cooler. Toyota will also offer a sub-radiator for additional cooling as an option for higher-end models, which is standard on the top-tier model. In terms of power configuration, the torque of this 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine has been significantly increased compared to the previous generation, from 370 Nm to 400 Nm, while the maximum power output remains at 304 horsepower. It is equipped with a launch control mode, although Toyota has not yet revealed the specific 0-100km/h acceleration time. Additionally, Toyota has optimized the handling of the car with hardware upgrades.
The front and rear suspension systems have been fitted with new rebound springs to improve anti-roll capabilities. The mounting points of the trailing arms have been adjusted to minimize body roll during acceleration. Moreover, the 2025 GR Corolla models will all come standard with front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials (LSD). In the United States, three models will be available: GR Corolla Core, GR Corolla Premium, and GR Corolla Premium Plus. The Premium Plus model will feature a forged carbon fiber roof, custom engine cover, auxiliary radiator, matte black wheels, a heads-up display, and GR brand suede seats as its unique main configurations. Pricing details are yet to be announced.
