Upcoming SUVs Spark Excitement: Xiaomi’s SU7 and Geely’s Galaxy Starship
As we transition into the second half of 2024, automakers are poised to unleash a new wave of vehicles, with new energy SUVs leading the charge. From highly anticipated models set to hit the market to potential blockbusters recently spotted testing, there’s a lot to look forward to!
Geely Galaxy Starship
In the era of new energy, automakers have unveiled flagship SUVs, such as the Wangyuan U8, Wenjie M9, and Li Xiang L9. While Geely, a leading brand, was previously missing a standout product, that gap is about to be filled with the imminent production launch of its large SUV, the Geely Galaxy Starship.
The Geely Galaxy Starship has only been showcased in prototype form, but its bodywork is already extremely close to the production version. It features a tall front and a robust body size, complemented by straight waistlines and prominent wheel arches, giving it a muscular look. A flat roof and a full rear ensure ample space for rear passengers. The interior adopts a minimalist design, with a trapezoidal, integrated screen and hidden air outlets, offering a rich sense of hierarchy. Many of the sci-fi elements seen in the prototype are unlikely to make it to the production model, but the overall design direction is clear. The vehicle will be developed on the GEA architecture, equipped with the latest generation of the Lei Shen electric hybrid system, the Galaxy 11-in-1 intelligent electric drive, AI-powered sound systems, AI-powered seats, the Galaxy AI digital sprite, and an AI digital chassis, among other advanced technologies. It boasts an overall range of over 2000km and an engine thermal efficiency of 46%, with a minimum fuel consumption of 2L per 100km.
The main concern with the Geely Galaxy Starship is its slow production progress. With features like fuel consumption and range already achievable by other automakers, will it be able to compete with the Wenjie M9 when it finally hits the market?
Ferrari Purosangue
The Xiaomi SU7’s design has sparked controversy, but its appeal lies in its aesthetics. Despite the risk of being teased as the “Baoshi Mi,” it has attracted many fans. Xiaomi’s second model, a sporty SUV, has recently been spotted testing, with its design resembling the Ferrari Purosangue. Could this be the “Young Person’s First ‘Falami’”?
The spy shots reveal a front-end light design similar to the SU7, with a low front bonnet, expected to provide excellent visibility. The body features a short front and rear overhang with a long wheelbase, resulting in a sleek profile. The wide C-pillar and sloping roof add to the muscular look, and the wheels are equipped with the same yellow calipers as the SU7. The compact body and elongated front bonnet are characteristic of Ferrari’s Purosangue style, likely appealing to young consumers for its sporty handling. The power output can be expected to match that of the SU7, with a single-motor version delivering 220 kW and 400 N·m, and a dual-motor version offering 495 kW and 838 N·m, supporting 800V fast charging.
The price is expected to fall within the 20-300,000 yuan range, in line with Xiaomi’s brand positioning and the current pricing trends in the competitive automotive market.
