BYD Hires Former Baidu Intelligent Driving Technology Leader Zhou Peng to Explore End-to-End Solutions

According to the latest reports, Zhou Peng, the former leader of Baidu’s intelligent driving technology team, has joined BYD, which will boost BYD’s progress in the field of autonomous driving. Zhou Peng will be responsible for leading the development of end-to-end large model control algorithms at BYD, marking an important step for BYD in the pursuit of advanced autonomous driving technology.

Previously, Zhou Peng was in charge of the intelligent driving cabin and driving integration technology team at Baidu, where he gained extensive experience in project management. His addition will provide significant help to BYD in building the framework for intelligent driving technology and guiding the team.

It is reported that end-to-end autonomous driving has become an industry consensus, and BYD is currently in the initial exploration stage of this technology. To effectively train end-to-end algorithms, BYD requires a large amount of high-quality data and the establishment of an efficient technical framework and team. Zhou Peng’s joining is crucial for the successful implementation of this strategy.

BYD is currently benchmarking Tesla’s technology internally and ensuring that its supplier solutions remain cutting-edge and secure. The company’s high-end intelligent driving technology has already been applied to premium models such as the Wei Li U8 and Denza N7, and in the fiercely competitive market environment, manufacturers like BYD are working to apply these technologies to more affordable models.

Additionally, BYD plans to equip models priced above 300,000 yuan with advanced autonomous driving systems as standard within the next few years, while models priced between 200,000 and 300,000 yuan will offer the system as an optional package. Tesla’s recently released FSD V12 has received positive feedback, influencing the industry’s consensus on the end-to-end large model technology adopted by Tesla, and this trend is prompting more Chinese automakers to explore similar technological paths.

In summary, Zhou Peng’s joining and BYD’s strategic investment in intelligent technology reflect the company’s ambition to remain at the forefront of autonomous driving technology, aligning with the industry’s trend towards more complex and accessible driving assistance systems.
